Some AMR calculations include a parameter that defines what region of a
cell is covered, or filled, with valid data. The area of the cell where
there is no data is indicative of a boundary in the simulation between
two different fields. Specifically, the different fields are some
variable that is being simulated, and another field that simply occupies
space. Since these boundaries are not explicitly present in the AMR
dataset, they must be extracted prior to visualization. Our work
in AMR Embedded Boundary extraction and visualization spans a period
of about 18 months with two sharp students from UC Davis.
