Visualization of Ethylene Dehydrogenation
These images show a theoretical chemical reaction:
the dehydrogenation of ethylene. Two H atoms are
removed from the ethylene C2H4 molecule upon
interaction with a substrate of Nickel.
- During an ethylene adsorbing phase, the
C2H2 moves towards the nickel surface.
- The 2H's start to move away during the surface reaction.
- Hydrogen diffusion then occurs as the hydrogens move
further away from the C2H2 which sticks to the surface of nickel.
- Acetylene desorbing occurs when the C2H2 leaves the
nickel.
