Remote Visualization
Newer techniques
- GLR (Silicon Graphics “product” to allow users remote access to rendering hardware)
- LLNL has incorporated GLR into AVS
- Used for displaying tokamaks and volume visualizations over a network
- Display hardware is low cost PC’s
- Required high bandwidth and low latency between sites
- Network aware applications
- Dynamic load balancing (tradeoff rendering locally vs remotely)
- Dependent upon local hardware, network throughput and latency, application may decide to send over all the data, some of the data or none of the data for local rendering
- Adapting vis techniques to work over a wide area network
