Hotel Information
A block of guest rooms has been reserved at the Monterey Hilton Garden Inn – Monterey, located at 1000 Aguajito Road, Monterey, California. All forum sessions will be held in this hotel.
The Hilton Garden Inn Monterey is conveniently located near California's scenic Highway 1, ½ a mile from the beautiful beaches of Monterey Bay, and less than three miles from Monterey Peninsula Airport.
Hotel Conference Rates:The single/double occupancy conference rate for hotel guest rooms is $133++ (prevailing government rate) per night. Occupancy tax is currently 10% plus $1.15 per night (subject to change without notice).
These negotiated rates will be honored starting from Friday, April 17, through Friday, April 24, subject to availability.
Availability of the conference rate is predicated on two factors – the number of rooms left in the block, and the cut-off date of Wednesday, March 27, 2009. We recommend that you make your reservations early.
Making Your Reservation:Guests must make their own reservations by calling the hotel's in-house reservations number at (831) 373-6141 no later than March 27, 2009. The block of rooms is under the code "LBN" (LBNL DOE Computer Graphics Forum 2009).
- Notes:
- From Wes 1/14/09: I just called and booked my room there. They suggested to use the LBN code; if you ask for DOE Computer Graphics Forum 2009, they won't know what you're talking about).
- From Wes 1/14/09: When booking my reservation, I tried to check in on Sat 4/18. The hotel is sold out that day. The hotel reservations guys found me a room on 4/18 at the Embassy Suites, which is a couple of miles away. The rate was $217.
Guests are responsible for paying for their own accommodations. If any individual reservation is cancelled or a guest "no-shows", the individual will be charged room and tax for one night, unless notice is received 72 hours prior to arrival date, and guest obtains a cancellation number.

DOE Computer Graphics Forum Mission Statement
The DOE Computer Graphics forum, which has been an annual event since the mid 1970s, is a venue where government-sponsored computer graphics/scientific visualization scientists, engineers and practitioners have the opportunity to share recent research, development and deployment results. While the participants are primarily from DOE laboratories and DOE-funded universities, the forum has welcomed participants who are funded by other government agencies (e.g., DOD, NSF) to perform graphics and visualization work.
While there are other venues for presenting and discussing graphics/visualization research, such as Siggraph and IEEE Visualization, the DOE labs with their emphasis on petascale computation face unique challenges in visualization and data understanding. Thus, over the years, the forum has proven invaluable for sharing information and experiences, building cross-institutional collaborations, and coordinating efforts across programs.
Vote for Dinner Menu
(March 10, 2009)
The way Tarpy's works is we need to choose one appetizer, two entrees, and one dessert that will be served at Tuesday's working dinner. Note: each person gets one entree, but as a group, we can choose two entrees and everyone in the group will be served ONE entree.
Please take a look at the set of dinner choices and cast your vote by sending email to Wes at ewbethel at lbl dot gov by no later than 20 March 2009. Your email should contain the following information:
Please choose:
- One item from (A) (Appetizers)
- Please send your first and second choice of entrees from (B)
- One item from (C) (desserts)
