Cryo-EM tomographic reconstruction of intact, frozen-hydrated Deinoccocus Radiodurans cells. A 400 voxel-thick slice of the volume-rendered reconstruction of a typical tetrad is shown along with part of the lacey carbon support film (pink). The cell wall (blue) and several subcellular bodies (green) are clearly visualized in this rendition. The sample was prepared by cryo-plunging live cells directly from the liquid culture.
