I am a Staff Scientist in the area of Machine Learning and Analytics at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I received my Ph.D. in 2009 from the Department of Computer Science of the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany (see About).
My research to date has focused on the intersection of visualization, machine learning, and data management for large-scale and high-dimensional data, with a particular focus on (a) machine learning, visualization, and analytics algorithms and methods for large-scale, high-dimensional, and multi-modal data, (b) data modeling and management for efficient data sharing and integration, and (c) data and analysis systems to enable data sharing, reuse, and analysis. As part of my research I have the great opportunity to closely collaborate with a wide range of application sciences — including, gene expression, metabolomics, particle physics, finance, neuroscience, and climate (see Research).
I have contributed to and lead the design, implementation, and development of publicly available and well-recognized visualization and analysis applications, including, PointCloudXplore, WarpIV, HDMF, BASTet, and OpenMSI (see Products). I have received two prestigious R&D 100 Award; in 2015 for the development of OpenMSI and in 2019 for the development of NWB (see Awards).
I have contributed to more than 55 peer-reviewed publications in high-ranking journals and conferences and more than 160 other publications in the from of posters, technical reports, theses, and presentations (see Research & Publications) .
