To: Norm Goldstein From: Wes Bethel Subject: Progress Report on ACTI project: Advanced Flux Visualization .... Date: 30 Oct 1995 Progress: Technical Mark Lederer from BP and I met here at LBNL to discuss new visualization techniques. These new techniques will make use of both flux data, along with scalar simulation data. The goal of these new techniques will be to quickly identify areas in the field which have the potential to be produced, but that aren't swept during a water flood. BP generated another dataset from a new simulation run and delivered this to me. I will be travelling to Houston next week to discuss the results with both BP and Western. BP and Western have agreed, between themselves, on staffing arrangements to facilitate more progress on the implementation of the LBNL flux visualization prototypes. All parties desire to see some subset of the LBNL prototypes ported and released in the January 1996 time frame. The virtual reality magnetic trackers were brought online and prototype code was developed which interface these devices into AVS. Using a hand-held tracker, we can rotate, translate, etc. the entire reservoir model, the virtual well for streamlines computation, and so forth. Progress: Administrative LBNL Director Shank signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 27 October 1995. This agreement will be sent to the partners for their review. Plans for Next Month Continue working on the tracker code, integrate the Head Mounted Display into the working environment. Develop a visualization prototype which creates geometric icons which are a function of both flux and some other scalar, such as Saturation of Mobilized Oil. Problem Areas None.
